Amidst the hustle and bustle of the VII District of Budapest, lies the hidden oasis of Twentysix, which offers the sensation of being thousands of miles away from the harsh winds of Europe. All one needs to do is enter the inconspicuous door on Király Street and suddenly find themselves transported to Twentysix, an exquisite indoor jungle that redefines the meaning of interior dining and hanging out altogether. This is not only a restaurant, but an entire living ecosystem that combines ultramodern architecture and nature. With a constant climate of 26°C (79°F)—which is suitable both for the exotic flora and people—the gorgeous courtyard under the glass roof has soon turned into the most desirable retreat spot for the local citizens and tourists.

The Architectural Structure of the Botanical Courtyard

There is something about Twentysix which makes it a true architectural wonder – it is the perfect example of blending nature into an old urban setting. The building consists of a beautiful restoration of a 19th century courtyard topped off by a giant glass roof. In total, there are more than 500 living plants suspended by iron beams or hanging off of the brick walls of the structure, including banana trees, palms, ivy, and ferns. It contrasts beautifully with the Hungarian-style structure and adds vibrant nature geometry to the old architecture of the building. It is like you have walked into a forgotten greenhouse in the best way possible and made it a stylish and refreshed place.

Zero-Waste Hub for Soul & Gastronomy

Twentysix is built on a beautiful concept that goes way deeper than its attractive design. The venue is comprised of four different concept spaces aimed at nourishing both the body and the soul: GARDEN – a restaurant that serves up delicious, conscious food in the spirit of Mediterranean cuisine; HOUSE – a culinary studio where cooking workshops take place; KITCHEN – a bakery with the aroma of fresh bread all around and finally STUDIO – a serene space for yoga. Sustainability is in their DNA. The venue practices the principle of zero waste and uses eco-conscious products and energy efficient systems to keep the huge indoor jungle alive. Regardless if you are there for brunch, shakshuka in particular, botanical cocktails made from freshly picked herbs in the canopy or evening yoga classes amid greenery – you are forced to stop, pause and connect with nature.
